Local Musicians Educated On Copyright

He was speaking to the artists and musicians present at the Central Music Association awareness launch held this week.

Mr Oala told the artists to remember that in music there were only two distinct copyrights and they are the composition of music and sound recording, reminding them that their songs are their creative work and remain as their property.

Speaking to the artists and musicians present for the final CMA awareness launch, Principal Legal Counsel at the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Oala Moi gave a talk on the importance of Music copyright and how it designates legal ownership of a musical composition or sound recording.

Upon the invitation of the Intellectual Property Office of Papua New Guinea, a national seminar was organised by a division of the United Nations called World Intellectual Property Organisation.

The event, held at Stanley Hotel, ran from Monday to Tuesday.

The director of International Relations at Australasian Performing Right Association, Scot Morris, said they were looking at the strategies for having a stronger copyright system in PNG to support the development of the cultural industry.
