Partnerships vital in ICT sector: Minister

This was according to the Minister for Communication and Information, Francis Maneke, during a recent brief meet and greet with His Excellency, High Commissioner of Australia to PNG, Bruce Davis.

Maneke acknowledged the presence of the Secretary of the Department of Communication and Information, Paulias Korni, and the Managing Director for the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Kora Nou.

Collaborations between the Department of Communication and Information, NBC and NICTA alongside the development partners is the way forward for the ICT sector.

Aust invited to invest in SEZ

The Yangoru-Saussia MP extended the invite through Australian high Commissioner to PNG, Bruce Davies, who recently accompanied Maru on an aerial view of the SEZ and site for an agricultural and farming project.

The project is undertaken by Israeli firm, Innovative Agri Industries (IAI), in a joint venture with the Government and Maru said the Government is looking to partner more investors for the SEZ.

High Commissioner Davis said it was an honour to be asked by the Minister to see the great opportunities in the district and province.

PNG-Aust relations must grow deeper and broader: Davies

Australian High Commissioner to PNG, Bruce Davies said this on Monday during the 2017 Leaders Summit in Port Moresby.

Davies said PNG was undergoing great change with the hosting of several resource energy projects, attracting more tourists, the agriculture potential and the hosting of several major events including the 2018 APEC Summit.

He added as PNG and Australia undergoes change and address short-term economic challenges, it is only natural that bilateral relations evolve as well.

UPNG launches master of economics program

Held at the Main Lecture Theatre, the event was witnessed by less than 200 people, with dignitaries in the likes of the Secretary for the Department of Education, Professor David Kavanamur, and the Australian High Commissioner to PNG, Bruce Davies.

As an homegrown postgraduate degree that has been developed with the support of staff from the Australia National University, the program aims to provide high quality educational opportunities and human resource development for leaders engaged in the economic and public sectors of the nation.

Canberra’s new man in PNG meets PM

PM O’Neill welcomed the new High Commissioner on behalf of the Government.

“We look forward to working with the new High Commissioner from Australia and building on our bilateral relationship,” the Prime Minister said following the meeting.

“High Commissioner Davis is no stranger to Papua New Guinea and his past experience will be most beneficial in his new role.

“I am also very pleased to hear that High Commissioner Davis will be undertaking a great deal of travel around Papua New Guinea and engaging with our people.”
