Black Orchids

Sports Tok Sevens Cup an Away Accolade

This year, 2024, the cup landed in the hands of Black Orchid from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, who claimed their second Cup title after defeating the Gerehu Natives 22 - 07 at the Sir John Guise Stadium on 31 March.

Black Orchid speedster Hensley praised

His three tries, one try assist and a crucial try save helped the AROB Black Orchid to their second Sports Tok Rugby Sevens Tournament Cup title; holding off the Gerehu Natives 22 – 07.

Sakein, a regular Black Orchid member, received praise from his team captain, Solomon Semoso who is also his elder brother and team head coach Tsitom Semoso.

Orchids fall short

The AROB boys shocked some of the higher profile teams from the Moresby and Lae to take out their inaugural title last year.

Being first timers at Sportstok 7s tournament last year, no one gave them a chance of making the semis, let alone making the grand final.

Led by former East New Britain maestro Eric Kaiat, Black Orchids took on CRU marquee team Moni Plus Nova in the epic battle for the silverware.

Orchids Sportstok Champs

After a long absence from the national sevens scene, the AROB boys have shown they have lost nothing in terms of class, playing open 7s rugby, showcasing, skill speed, and agility to shock last year's champions Brothers in the Cup semi-finals, to set up the big dance with Nova.

The grand final was an even contest from the outset with both teams at their equally strong in attack and defense. At halftime both teams were locked up at 5 all from one unconverted try each and setting up grandstand finish.
