Lupari eliminated

Acting Returning officer Dickson Toru said Independent candidate Issac Lupari was eliminated from the race. Only the top three remain.

After exclusion 23, the top three candidates are Lohia Boe Samuel, Joe Tonde and Dr. Thaddeus Kambanei.

After the distribution of Lupari’s ballot papers, Boe Samuel received 923 votes. His total was at 20, 080 votes.

Tonde collected 750 votes bringing his total to 14, 481 votes, and PNC candidate Dr. Thaddeus Kambanei received 1,288 votes, bringing his tally to 10,491 votes.

Exclusions Underway For MNE Seat

Moresby North-East is in Exclusion 68, taking the lead as of today, 11th of August is:

1. Andapanga Baliawe (IND) - 14,879 votes.
2. John Kaupa (PANGU Pati) - 12,865 votes.
3. Peter Dominic (APP) - 9,837 votes
4. Diane Unagi (ULP) - 9,698 votes
5. Labi Amaiu (NAP) - 8,644 votes

The officials are now distributing exclusion 68 - Andrew Mald.

Meanwhile, the NCD Regional seat is on the last counts. Ballot boxes were removed from the container to proceed counting.

Elections Almost Done: Sinai

Electoral Commissioner, Simon Sinai said about 109 Writs were returned after counting for Provincial and Open electorates were completed in many parts of the country.

He thanked all election officials for doing a tremendous job under difficult circumstances, particularly in the Highlands region in making sure that counting was completed and winners declared.

The Commissioner urged electoral officials in those electorates that are still counting to speed up and complete counting before Monday 15 August and have the remaining Writs returned

PM: Audit NGE 2022, Consider Bio System

PM Marape said, “We must reform our electoral processes. It is evident that maintaining a status quo on this is no longer an option. We must perform an audit of the National General Elections 2022. Granted that this government actually for the first-time front-loaded funds to the Electoral Commission, Police and Defense, we need to ask what happened?

40 suspects detained in NIP

This followed the damage of properties and unlawful wounding when National Alliance party supporters attacked supporters of Namatanai Open’s third runner-up on Tuesday, July 26th, at Pire Village after the peaceful declaration of the Namatanai Open seat.

The suspects were arrested for offences ranging from intimidation, fighting, causing grievous bodily harm (GBH), stealing, violence, arson and wilful damage of properties, including the damage of four boats.

Andapanga maintains lead in MNE counting

After elimination 50, Alfred Baliawe Andapanga was leading the Top 5 candidates, with  11, 215 votes. inclumbent MP John Kaupa was runnign second with 10, 562 votes.

MS17 applauded

The East New Britain-based unit was deployed to New Ireland at the end of May to assist with the escalating law and order situation.

“They were here for almost three months, making insertion into the province before elections for the Tigak Operations,” said PPC Nebanat.

“This was carried out successfully, restoring peace in the Tigak group of islands by laying to rest the chaotic situation that was affecting the island communities for the last three years.

Quality Check progresses for Madang regional

This newsroom was informed that quality check for the ballot papers from Bogia, Usino Bundi and Sumkar have been completed. Counting officials are now doing quality check for ballot papers from Madang District. Following this will be quality check of ballots from Middle Ramu and Rai Coast. Elimination will start thereafter.

People First Party (PFP) candidate Ramsy Pariwa is still leading the race, followed by PANGU Pati candidate Jerry Singirok. Incumbent governor and leader of People’s Labour Party, Peter Yama, is running third.

Parkop leads regional count

After count 369, incumbent Governor for NCD and leader of Social Democratic Party, Powes Parkop, was leading the race with over 32,000 votes. The results follow counting of ballots from wards 1 and 7 of Moresby North-West.
