Over K60,000 raised for RSPCA programs

The RSPCA of PNG’s inaugural Charity Golf Day was successful in raising just over K60,000 for their charitable shelter work.

The event was hosted to raise funds for their animal adoption and education program.

Fourteen business houses took part on April 26th. Additional support came from 18 other businesses who supported the event by sponsoring holes.

“We take this opportunity to thank our sponsors and supporters who contributed to making this event possible and the success that it was,” said RSPCA in a statement.

“The RSPCA’s Education Program costs approximately K20,000 annually. The program started in 2010 and teaches about responsible pet ownership and wildlife conservation, two major issues affecting the welfare of animals in our country.

“The program employs a coordinator and three casual employees who carry out weekly visits to primary and elementary schools within the nation’s capital. Annually, at its current capacity the program reaches over 13,000 students, teachers and members of the general public.

“The RSPCA’ Adoption program helps animals get their second chance in life. For every animal that we are able to save and put up for adoption, it costs us an estimated K1,500 to provide food, water, basic medical treatments including vaccination, and to have the pet neutered/spayed.

“On average, we have 30 to 40 dogs on our adoption program per month. For cats, we have an average of 10 per month.”
