Education director lauds talent ID program

Good things take time to develop.

The benefits may not be that reassuring in its early stages but in time it will show.

This week the Education Department through its Director – Schools Coordination & Teacher Appointments, Homoka Boge, endorsed High Performance Sport Papua New Guinea’s Kamapim Kakana Talent Identification & Development program.

The program since its inception in 2016 continues to be in high demand from schools.

“You go ahead and implement the program in the schools. Your program we have seen it and it is planned out nicely.

“This is very educational, it will motivate, it will enhance and it will teach our children to deviate from negative things,” said Boge.

He added that their teachers are very willing to be involved because in schools there are problems with student discipline.

“This program will help.

“The organisations that you have also put into supporting the program are also very helpful organisations.

“We the teachers and the Department of Education cannot do it alone. We need stakeholders, private organisations and NGOs.

“So we are very grateful for the program,” he added.

Boge took pride in having his former student and HPS PNG’s Talent ID Officer, Ian Kame, being part of the program as well.

“Ian was my student at Hohola Demonstration when I was the head teacher and I am proud of him.

“It was when he was a student that he was selected in the AFL program and proudly represented our school and our nation.

“It is much like what you guys are doing now.

“We are teachers and we have our children who are developed and we feel that pride because these are our results.”

The program has since awarded its inaugural scholarship awards to the top 25 student athletes of which three have been identified by PNG Rugby Union to participate in the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympics Games from October 1-6.
