Education director lauds talent ID program

The benefits may not be that reassuring in its early stages but in time it will show.

This week the Education Department through its Director – Schools Coordination & Teacher Appointments, Homoka Boge, endorsed High Performance Sport Papua New Guinea’s Kamapim Kakana Talent Identification & Development program.

The program since its inception in 2016 continues to be in high demand from schools.

ALS workshop starts on positive note

Coordinator, Richard Ora said feedback from participants of the workshop was good saying they enjoyed coming across information which was new to most of them.

“They learnt to appreciate and understand why leadership is an important component part of their performance as well just like preparing to train physically,” said Ora.

“The purpose of the first session was to understand, appreciate and evaluate, High Performance Sport Papua New Guinea as a support team to help maximize their performance.”

Search on for talented tertiary students

The program is dubbed ‘Kamapim Kakana’.

Dual career officer Edmond Bannick said this is an opportunity not to be missed for tertiary students who are talented but have no avenue to expose their ability through sports.

Students are encouraged to register before the TID is conducted on November 5 at the HPS PNG Southern Region Centre of Excellence at the Taurama Aquatic & Indoor Centre, from 10am-3pm.

Registration is K10 for both male and female students.

HP Sport PNG inducts student athletes

Nominations for coach study tour open

High quality coaching is a significant factor in achieving sustained international success and quality performance at any international sporting event.

Continuing with the support through the MOU between the PNG Government and the City of the Gold Coast, HP Sport PNG is conducting a PNG Coach Study Tour which will expose selected coaches to international calibre applied coaching concepts, methods and techniques.

Tertiary institutions to mark international sport day

The event, to be hosted by the High Performance Sport Papua New Guinea, will embrace the power of sport to bring about change in our society today.

To be held at the Bisini Sports precinct, the event will see institutions in Lae and Port Moresby gather for a round of AFL 9s and mixed netball.

Event Coordinator, Cornelius Papau, said the objective of the event is to celebrate the power of sport to drive social change, community development and to foster peace and understanding.

High Performance PNG reviews programs

“While programs and services provided by High Performance Sport Papua New Guinea will remain unchanged, it will be the approach that will be enhanced going forward.”

This was made clear by the High Performance Director Aaron Alsop when presenting the updates aligning the programs for 2016-2017.

“The programs and services won’t change a lot in terms of what we are doing next year, but it will just mean that the amount or the level of services the athletes and coaches get access to depend on what tier structure they fit in,” Alsop said.

HP Sport marks International Students Day

November 17 is the day marked to celebrate daily student life at tertiary institutions around the world.

HPS PNG Talent Pathway Coordinator, Cornelius Papau was in Lae to conduct proceedings which included games with the University of Technology, Malahang Technical High School, Lae Secondary School and International Training Institute – Lae campus.

“The International Students day was a first of its kind where High Performance Sport PNG as host involved tertiary institutions to be part of the celebration in Port Moresby and Lae.

HP Sport to co-host PNG Cancer Foundation workshop

HPS PNG Director, Aaron Alsop said the organization was looking at opportunities to collaborate on health education messaging for athletes and coaches.

“Some of our athletes and coaches have been affected by Cancer through the loss of a family member, friend or even team mates.

“It’s important that HP and other key sporting bodies promote healthy lifestyle and wellness education in partnership with wonderful organisations like PNGCF,” said Alsop.
