We’ll deal with the UN matter accordingly: O’Neill

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has confirmed that person found guilty with the delay in paying the country’s annual contributions to the United Nations General Assembly will be punished.

O’Neill told Loop PNG that funding for the UN have been in a trust account for months.

He said someone in the Foreign Affairs department is not doing his/her job which resulted in such.

PNG lost its vote in the United Nations General Assembly because it failed to pay its annual contributions of at least (K532,000) to regain voting rights.

PNG is one of six countries whose voting rights have been suspended for non-payment — the others being Venezuela, Libya, Sudan, Cape Verde and Vanuatu.

Meanwhile, O’Neill’s responds in passing the blame to the Foreign Affairs department has raised different comments from the various citizens of the country.

One comment from our reader known only as Tim on our website calling the blaming by PM is hilarious!

“Now O'Neill points fingers at the Foreign Affairs Department for incompetency.

“Seems he is never interested in international forums like the UN and the WHO. Our country's inability to report if we did actually achieve the UN's Millennium Development Goal at 2015 at O'Neill's helm as PM was an international disgrace.

“Our suspension is another infamous mishap on the international stage and our place in the international community.

“His commitment to solemnly sign the agreement for our country to follow and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals now seems to be a mere publicity stunt as is his common practice.

“It is time we bury people’s national congress and their fake policies and plans.”

Oro Governor Gary Juffa also raised concerns earlier calling on O’Neill to voluntarily step aside while Forein Affairs Minister Rimbink Pato to resign for bringing shame to the country in an international organisation.
