Laloki staff still waiting

Staff of the Laloki Psychiatric Hospital are still awaiting Health Department’s response on the workforce assessment that was carried out by the department mid last month.

The hospital staff had initially planned to undertake industrial action as the last resort in getting immediate response from the department.

The workforce assessment is vital in determining the hospital’s workforce structure and possibly its legal status, eventually leading to recruitment of more manpower to cater for the increasing number of patients the hospital is receiving.

Director Medical Services Dr Ludwik Nanawar said the latest they’ve received from the department is that the report is being finalised and should be handed over to the Health Secretary by Wednesday this week.

The hospital has a lot of administrative and operations issues to be addressed, including major shortage of staff and bedding spaces among many others.

The confirmation of its legal status will help address some of these issues.
