Goilala MP calls for proper audits

Goilala MP William Samb is calling on relevant authorities to adequately do audits on the acquittals of Members of Parliament.

Being in Parliament for 18 months, Samb said the Government must also provide and fund auditors to carry out acquittals of the MPs’ funds.

Samb further raised concern on the lack of clarity on the functions of the District Development Authority (DDA) chairman and the DDA’s chief executive officer.

“There must be some demarcation in the district to clarify the functions of the district office,” said Samb.

He stated that on many occasions, the DDA chairman and CEOs were always caught in between as to who they will report to.

“We need to have some clarity as to who is doing this and who is doing that.”

He added that officers from the Department of Implementation and Rural Development (DIRD) should also do acquittals accordingly, and not be persuaded by MPs.

Samb said many critics on the street have tarnished the good name of MPs but lack concrete evidence to support their criticism.

That is why it is vital to conduct audits and make it public so that taxpayers can know where their money is being spent.
