28 crimes nationwide, nine arrests

Police made nine arrests in relation to twenty-eight crimes reported nationwide on Thursday 08th November, 2018.

This is according to the daily crime summary provided by the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Chief of Operations, Jim Andrews.

The 28 crimes include: two murders, five rape cases, two robberies, three break-in domestic, one stealing of motor vehicle, four stealing, one fraud, eight grievous bodily harm and two abduction cases.

Eight crimes were reported in Morobe Province, six in Enga, four in Southern Highlands and ten reported in the National Capital District.

Brief statements of crimes reported nationwide:

  • NCD/Central Command – Port Moresby: Two stolen motor vehicles – recovered. Complainant Sike Norman reported that four armed suspects stole his grey Toyota Camry on the night of Sunday November 4 and used this to steal another vehicle at St Joseph’s International School at around 3pm on November 7. The vehicle stolen was a grey Nissan Murano Station Wagon. Both vehicles convoyed into the Vadavada area along the Taurama Road. The Nissan Muruno ran into a power pole. One of the suspects was apprehended by police. Both vehicles were recovered.
  • NCD/Central Command – Port Moresby: Grievous bodily harm - Pending. On the 19th of October, 2018, between 6am and 6:30am at Morata 4 Swamp, complainant reported that the suspect took her to their garden and assaulted her using an iron rod several times all over her body. The victim sustained bruises on her back and a fractured right arm. Matter reported to Waigani Police Station and the suspect is still at large.
  • NCD/Central Command – Port Moresby: Stealing by false pretense - Pending. On the 06th of November, 2018 at 6pm at the ATS Settlement, complainant reported that five suspects allegedly sold him a fake gold bar. He alleged that the four men melted lead into the shape of a gold bar with a trademark on it and painted it with metallic gold paint. The complainant thought it was real and he bought it for K20,000. He later discovered that the gold was fake and reported it to Police. Investigation is still pending.
  • NCD/Central Command – Port Moresby: Grievous bodily harm – One arrest made. Police arrested and charged 31-year-old Jeremiah Rokentuo, of Pangori village, East Sepik Province, for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm to victim Balus Sokele on 21st of October at 6am at the Five-Mile 2/4 Market. The suspect is detained in the Boroko Police cell.
  • NCD/Central Command – Port Moresby: Stealing (major) - Pending. Hae Kyoung Chun, 56, a Korean tourist residing at the Hideaway Hotel, Six-Mile, reported that her bag containing 400 U.S dollars and 100,000 Korean Won plus other bank cards was left in the hotel and picked up by a known suspect who is now in hiding. This occurred on 4th of November, 2018, around 7am. Matter reported to Police.
  • NCD/Central Command – Port Moresby: Fraud - one arrest made. Complainant claims that whilst being a tenant of the National Housing Corporation property described as section 71, allotment 8, Henao Dr, Gordon’s in NCD, he was made an offer to purchase the property outright by the National Executive Council. The complainant claims he made a 10 percent upfront payment and was waiting for a contract of sale to be furnished when the property was sold to another purchaser. He claims John Dege, as the Acting Managing Director of the NHC, sold the property to another person, a Wemin Bol (defendant), who then sold it to a third person. Nambari claims Dege used his position and transferred the title of the property to a new buyer. Nambari claims the defendant facilitated the transfer in isolation and without following the established procurement process. The defendant was apprehended and brought to the Boroko Police Station where he was formally arrested with; one count of abuse of office under section 92 (1), one count of misappropriation under section 383A (1) (b), and one count of conspiracy to defraud under section 407 (1) (b) all under the criminal code act. He is detained in the police cells.
  • NCD/Central Command – Port Moresby: Stealing by false pretense – It happened between 23rd September and 08th December, 2016, at WaterFront Port Moresby. Complainant, Freddie Korakarili, a legal officer with Pacific Construction, reported that the suspect, Blandy Maraga, sold a disputed piece of land to him for K600,000. Complainant later learned that the accused was lying to him knowing well that the land was in dispute. Matter reported and suspect was apprehended and brought to the Provincial Fraud Squad Office in Boroko. Suspect was formally arrested and charged for stealing by false pretense and detained in the cells at Boroko.
  • NCD/Central Command – Port Moresby: Kidnapping and GBH - one arrest made. It took place in June 2017 around 12pm at Seven-Mile. Complainant from Boromii in Gumini, Simbu Province, reported that he was lured by a suspect, from Southern Highlands Province, to Seven-Mile where the suspect attempted to stab the complainant using two kitchen knives. Suspect went into hiding but he was sighted last week and apprehended and brought to the Police. He is detained in the cell and awaiting further investigations and formal arrest.
  • NCD/Central Command – Port Moresby: Armed hold up and SMV - Pending. It occurred on the 26th of October, 2018, around 1.15pm at Red Hills, Gerehu Stage 3B. Victim reported that she was driving on her way to work when 10 unknown suspects blocked the road, held her at gun point and drove off in her vehicle, a Toyota Prado S/Wagon, White in colour valued at K80,000 together with her personnel items such as a mobile phone and cash. Matter was reported to Police. An investigation is still pending.
  • Northern Command - Morobe Province: Sexual penetration – One arrest made. It occurred on the 30th of October, 2018, around 09.50am at Simen settlement, Lae. Complainant reported that the suspect, Wanpis Bobby of Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province, lured a six-year-old girl into his house where he allegedly sexually penetrated her. The victim informed her mother who reported the matter to police. The suspect was apprehended and arrested.
  • Northern Command - Morobe Province: Stealing (major) - Pending. It took place on the 21st of February, 2018, at BSP Lae Commercial Centre. Complainant reported that a known suspect withdrew a total money of K46,907 from BSP Lae and went into hiding. Matter reported to Lae Police station and the suspect is still at large.
  • Northern Command - Morobe Province: Kidnapping - Pending. It occurred on the 18th of October, 2018, around 4pm at the Lae Secondary School. Complainant Joseph Goaizaina reported that victim, Irani Bele, 18, went to the mentioned school but did not return from school. All searches by her family and friends have been in vain. Police believe that the Irani has been kidnapped by a known suspect. Investigation is still pending.
  • Northern Command - Morobe Province: Grievous bodily harm. It happened on the 07th of November, 2018, about 9:30am in Lae. Complainant, H. Jakaria reported that the suspect went into the victim’s store and had an argument with the victim without a valid reason. A fight broke out between these two factions and the suspect got his pocket knife and stabbed the victim in the stomach. The victim was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Report was laid to Lae Police Station and the suspect is still at large.
  • Northern Command - Morobe Province: Sexual penetration - Pending. It eventuated on the 04th of October, 2018, between 2pm and 2:30pm at Nazab-Kamdaran. Complainant reported that a suspect (known), took the victim, a nine-year-old girl, to his house and sexually penetrated her. The victim was released later. The matter was reported to Police. The suspect is still at large.
  • Northern Command - Morobe Province: Sexual penetration - Pending. It took place on the 25th of October, 2018, at night at Twelve-Mile, Sepik block in Lae. Victim, 15, reported that she had a relationship with the suspect who forcefully sexually penetrated her on two different occasions. The victim reported the matter to the police and the suspect is still at large.
  • Northern Command - Morobe Province: Sexual penetration - One arrest made. It occurred on the 28th of October, 2018, between 9am and 10am at Nawaeb Block. Five-year-old complainant reported that she was lured by the suspect, 21, with lollies and taken to the Bumbu River bank where she was sexually penetrated. The victim later reported the matter to her parents and the suspect was apprehended and is currently in police custody.
  • Northern Command - Morobe Province: Wilful murder - One arrest made, two suspects still at large. It eventuated on the 31st of October, 2018, between 7am and 8am at Pupuafin Block/Tanam in Wampar LLG, Huon District. Complainant Yakimbu Yaropo reported that deceased, Sepi Jeffery, 25, from the mentioned place, had a fellowship with his church group at his house. The music was so loud so the accused, with two of his brothers, entered the deceased’s premises and started an argument with the deceased and other church members. They were told to move from their respective areas but the next day, the accused and his two brothers allegedly stoned the deceased to death. One suspect was charged and arrested the same day while two other suspects are still on the run. Investigation is pending.
  • Highlands Western End Command - Enga Province - Sexual penetration – One arrest made. It occurred on the 31st of October, 2018, between 10am and 10:30am at Surinki Village in Laiagam District, Enga Province. Complainant, 6, from the same village reported that she was playing with her friends with a balloon when the suspect, Gibson Kulin, 20, took her balloon away. The victim followed the suspect trying to get her balloon back where she was allegedly sexually penetrated by the suspect. Matter was reported to her parents and the suspect was later arrested and charged and brought to the Wabag Police Cell.
  • Highlands Western End Command - Enga Province

  2. Grievous bodily harm – Two reported with nil arrest made.
  3. Break and enter and stealing (domestic) - Two reported with nil arrest made.
  • Highlands Western End Command - Southern Highlands Province.

  1. Wilful murder - One reported with nil arrest made.
  2. Wounding - Two reported with nil arrest made.
  3. Break and enter and stealing (domestic) - Two reported with nil arrest made.
