The evolution of an ancient art

What better way to showcase progress of women in PNG, than capturing it at the Women Weavers of Milne Bay (WWOMB).

Falling a day exactly after the International Women’s Day, the annual event stands to showcase the evolution of an ancient art into modern fashion skill.

WWOMB is a two-day event hosted in Alotau to promote the diverse forms, skills and techniques of weaving and contemporary fashion.

Coinciding with the International Women's Day theme #PressforProgress, this year’s theme for the WWOMB event is #InspireToEmpower.

The event is rising up to the call to action in accelerating gender parity.

It commenced yesterday in an explosion of weaving culture showcasing the amazing, talented and skillful rural and urban women of Milne Bay and PNG.

The first day saw sale of arts and craft, Interactive activities and cultural performances throughout the day.

Today’s activity will include other demonstrations as well such as traditional cooking.

The event ends with a fashion show featuring designs by urban and rural Milne Bay women designers.
