Kiriwina polling tomorrow

Polling for Kiriwina LLG in Milne Bay province is set to start tomorrow, Monday 26 June.

But as per the PNG Electoral Commission, polling was supposed to begin on Saturday, June 24.

Kiriwina-Goodenough Returning Officer Gansen Kadi said all materials only arrived in the electorate today, noting a delay in disbursement from the Electoral Commission.

He added that materials for Goodenough LLG are yet to arrive.

Kadi partly blamed the rainy weather for the delay.

“Hopefully they receive their materials tomorrow. There’s no communication with the Assistant Returning Officer in the area so I’m not sure of the status. But we will give an update,” he said.

He also confirmed all polling personnel in the electorate are already stationed at respective polling villages.

However, police personnel have not been deployed yet.

“We will begin polling without security. We are expecting police presence in the next two to three days,” Kadi said

“Milne Bay people are peace-loving people but things have changed so we anticipate anything to happen. But the polling officials have been geared up so we are ready to deal with anything.”
