2017 PNG General Election

Milne Bay team completes polling

Team five in Daga LLG is the first in the province to finish.

The team has packed its materials and is waiting to be airlifted back to the LLG headquarters.

There are 78 teams in total.

Milne Bay Province commenced polling on Saturday, despite bad weather and no police presence.

Election manager Daga reported a relatively good polling period so far.

Kiriwina polling tomorrow

But as per the PNG Electoral Commission, polling was supposed to begin on Saturday, June 24.

Kiriwina-Goodenough Returning Officer Gansen Kadi said all materials only arrived in the electorate today, noting a delay in disbursement from the Electoral Commission.

He added that materials for Goodenough LLG are yet to arrive.

Kadi partly blamed the rainy weather for the delay.

Weather poses challenges for electorate

23 teams in the electorate started the polls yesterday, while six more teams are expected to do so by Monday.

From these six teams, four are for the Daga Rural LLG and two for the Makamaka Rural LLG - the reason being late training, according to Alasana.

In general, he said polling commenced smoothly with no reports of security issues despite the delay in police presence at polling areas. Police should be dispatched to locations by today.

But there is a bigger issue for some voters.
