WNB and Bougainville hit by strong winds

The strong winds affecting the Southern Region of Papua New Guinea have now moved up towards the coastal areas of West New Britain and Bougainville.

People living along the coast are warned to take precaution when going out to sea following the strong winds causing rough seas and high wind waves.

Forecaster Percy Haruku urges all small crafts and boats to take necessary precautions before going out to sea.

Coastal villagers are also warned to avoid traveling long distances by boat or dinghy and also going out fishing during this time of strong winds.

These strong winds will continue to affect all coastal waters of Southern PNG through Torres Strait, Daru, Kerema and all islands of Milne Bay.

The Momase Region will also be hit by strong winds from Finschaffen through to Siassi in Morobe Province, Karkar Island in Madang and Wewak in East Sepik Province.

The renewal strong wind warning was issued by the PNG National Weather Service this morning.

The strong wind warning is ongoing for nearly two months now as the southeast trade winds prevail over the country.

The Weather Service warns that strong southeast winds of 25/34 knots are expected to continue for the next 24 hours.
