Virtual climate centre to improve long-term forecasts

The online centre will be run by the Pacific Meteorological Council, which says a regional perspective will enhance the prediction of long term weather patterns that can cause droughts and cyclones.

The council's chair Andrew Tait said the centre would enable countries to share weather data and improve long-term forecasts.

WNB and Bougainville hit by strong winds

People living along the coast are warned to take precaution when going out to sea following the strong winds causing rough seas and high wind waves.

Forecaster Percy Haruku urges all small crafts and boats to take necessary precautions before going out to sea.

Coastal villagers are also warned to avoid traveling long distances by boat or dinghy and also going out fishing during this time of strong winds.

These strong winds will continue to affect all coastal waters of Southern PNG through Torres Strait, Daru, Kerema and all islands of Milne Bay.
