Speeding fines not a deterrence

The current minimum bail penalty of K300 in place for those caught drink driving and speeding fines ranging from K150 is not sufficient to deal with perpetrators who break such laws.

Assistant Police Commissioner for Traffic Jerry Frank informed PNG Loop that with the Motor Traffic Act coming into play leading to regular legislation the traffic fines should be raised to deal with the issue.

Franks says however that if the fines were to be increased to K1000 or more, it would force motorists to be accountable for their own actions and deter them for breaking the law which would lead to a  drop in accidents  on our roads.
