Last night, before the performance of the Black Brothers, he took to the stage and commended the public for turning up in big numbers to participate in the celebrations.
He said this was an expression of confidence for the country and for the future.
“I am very proud because of everyone who came out in their national colours and I am sure this was the same throughout the nation.
“This is the spirit that started our country 41 years ago; this is the picture of our future. I salute and commendd you. Be proud to be a Papua New Guinean,” he said.
The celebrations ended on a high note, with the concert of the Black Brothers at the Sir John Guise stadium.
Local artists in the likes of Dejays, Banex Oa, Paramana Strangers, Wakhoo Boys, Coral Springs, Brixiie, Nathan Nakikus, J Lieasi, Dadiigii entertained the crowd with favourites such as Meri Ialibu, Yerowari Flower, Stella, Big Sot, Wewak Hill among others.
