POM residents commended for peaceful celebrations

Last night, before the performance of the Black Brothers, he took to the stage and  commended the public for turning up in big numbers to participate in the celebrations.

He said this was an expression of confidence for the country and for the future.

“I am very proud because of everyone who came out in their national colours and I am sure this was the same throughout the nation.

Sir John Guise stadium set for music extravaganza

The show starts at 6.30pm organised by the National Capital District Commission with gates open at 4.30pm.

The evening will kick off with opening acts yogabatics followed by deejays then a lineup of local singers and bands.

Paramana Strangers will be the first to take the stage followed by Banex Oa, Wakhoo Boys, Coral Springs, Brixiie, Nathan Nakikus, J Lieasi and Dadiigii.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop will then give his keynote address and Independence Day message to the public before international group Black Brothers Band from West Papua takes the stage.

Street and Music Festival gets underway in NCD

Pascoe Promotions on behalf of National Capital District is the organiser of the first of its kind street festival event which will go on for the next two days.

The event, open to the public, will feature creative activities and performances to celebrate PNG's 41st anniversary.

Today saw among the performances Saiwara Ambai Cultural Group, Acoustic performance by Mary Nateva, South Side crew, Yoga Unites and Independence Fashion Show by World Supermodel PNG.

Black Sisters honored to be part of PNG’s Independence celebrations

Black Sisters comprise of Petronela, Rosalie and Lea Rumwaropen who are daughters of late August Rumwaropen, the original member of West Papua legendary band Black Brothers.

The trio will be performing alongside the Black Brothers at the Sir John Guise Stadium on Independence Day as part of the National Capital District’s organised celebrations for city residents.

The three sisters are well known in Australia and around the Pacific performing and have performed at three occasions in Moresby in past years.

Security guaranteed at NCD Independence Day festivities

National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop said the organisers are security conscious at the venues.

NCDC has organised the Street Festival at Paga Hill ring road and the Black Brothers concert at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

Parkop said there’s police officers stationed at the ring road to ensure that people have a good time and enjoy themselves and go away with the good memories of the 41st anniversary.

The stadium will provide a high standard of security both inside and outside the venue.

Waigani Primary showcase traditional food show

As per their assessment, the grade six students filled at least 2 stalls with food from all four regions of the country. 
Among the favourites were creamed sago and crocodile meat from Sepik, Aigir from East New Britain, Highlands Mumu, Pariva (sago mixed with banana) and fish from Central. 
The food was not only for display, they were in fact hot sales items. 
Senior grade six teacher  Bella Pipingan said the students were divided into four regional groups to sell each of their local food. 
They will then be assessed accordingly. 

Waigani Primary school lays it on with celebrations

This reflection comes amidst the schools 41st pre-independence celebrations today. 
The celebrations involve the participation of all students beginning from grade three to eight. 
The open event also  involved parents and interested public to see performance by 15 traditional dance groups from all regions of the country. 
These dance performances are part of the grade 7 assessments from which the students will be assessed. 
Other traditional activities assessed were traditional food prepared by Grade 6 students.

Businesses houses have already pledged Gold and Platinum sponsorship of the event.

Rabaul town is set to come alive tomorrow and Saturday to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the 1994 twin volcanic eruptions and celebrate Papua New Guinea’s 41st year of independence.

On Saturday  Sept 17, the streets of Rabaul will be full of colour as the float parade involving business houses that operate in ENB make their way through town.

Black Brothers Band excited to perform again in PNG

The band last performed in PNG back in 1978 and are back to perform on Independence Day at the Sir John Guise Stadium to commemorate PNG’s 41st Anniversary.

The original band was founded by manager Andy Ayamiseba, with members including Hengky Sumanti Miratoneng (vocals, guitar), Benny Bettay (bass), August Rumwaropen (lead guitar, vocals), Stevy Mambor (vocals, drums), Willem Ayamiseba (percussion) and Amri Kahar (trumpet).
