PNG ready to implement Paris Agreement

Papua New Guinea is ready to implement the United Nation’s Paris Agreement after being the 23rd country to rectify the Agreement.

Minister for Environment and Conservation John Pundari said this in Parliament  on Friday October 28, 2016.

Pundari said this includes the receiving of capacity building assistance, technology transfer and climate finance from developed countries.

He said this will assist in the mitigation of climate change and adaptation to the effects of climate change related to disasters in rural communities.

“PNG with other small island developing states and developing countries will access climate finance to address and mitigate climate related disasters and events,” Pundari said.

Pundari added that Foreign Affairs Minister and Immigration, Rimbink Pato signed the Privileges and Immunity Agreement with Green Climate Fund (GCF) last month to enable the GCF senior officials and technical staff to travel into PNG.

He said they will be here to work with the Government through the Climate Change Development Authority and assist PNG to move forward in the implementation stage.
