Maru delivers Christmas present

Kesemba villages 40-year wait for road has finally arrived this Christmas.

Kesemba is located in East Yangoru LLG of the Yangoru-Saussia District of East Sepik Province.

Local MP and Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry Richard Maru opened his people’s early Christmas present on Monday, with fanfare as the villagers showed their appreciation with traditional singings and celebrations.

The 7km road built at a cost of K150,000 was funded by the National Government now links Kesemba to Munji along the main Sepik Highway.

Maru when opening the road, told his people to choose good leaders to see changes in their area.

“Good leadership determines the livelihood of people. For the last 40 years, Yangoru-Saussia has failed to elect competent leaders that have the heart for the people.

“These past leaders have failed to recognise the importance of improving the livelihood of the very people who mandate them to represent them in Parliament.

“I will make sure that every village in Yangoru-Saussia District will be linked by road for the first time in 40 years. The Wihun – Boinam road is the next road to be constructed,” Maru said.

Meanwhile, Minister Maru pledged a K10,000 funding that will go towards building a new elementary school for Kesamba village, and also committed to fund a new road connecting Kesemba to Haripmo community school next year.
