Lions ravage Isapea

A double in the second-half to winger Jolam Jerry helped seal a 30-20 win for the TNA Simbu Lions over Gulf Isapea in the round 8 clash of the Digicel Cup.

The Lions took a 12-6 lead at half-time at the Sir Hubert Murray stadium this afternoon. They had to hold off a determined Isapea side in the second half to secure the win.

Suspended Hunters player Gahuna Silas put Isapea right back in the game, scoring two minutes into the second half.

Solomon Pokari Kale made no mistake in converting the try to level up.

The Lions took back the lead six minutes later after Robin Soga converted a penalty from right in front.

Isapea were keen not to let the game slip away from them and the scores were tied again at 14-14 in the 51st minute after Kale kicked a penalty.

Two quick tries to Rex Maima and Jerry on the wing gave the Lions some breathing space but Isapea hit back with a try through half-back Japheth Olik.

This set up a nail-biting last 10 minutes with the score now at 24-20 with the Lions still leading.

The win was sealed in the 74th minute when quick hands to Jerry saw him fly over to score the winning try, with the final score at 30-20.
