A team of 35 volunteers from ExxonMobil PNG Limited (EMPNG) recently took part in a clean-up at the Kaimari Market near Moro in Southern Highlands Province.
Before the clean-up began, the team engaged with the community in general sanitation practices and protecting the environment.
EMPNG community affairs officer, Steven Kadam said the volunteering provides an opportunity for the workforce to engage with the community in a meaningful way and demonstrates a strong culture of teamwork, encouraging each of us to give back to the community.
He also commended and thanked Oil Search Limited for allowing the use of their waste disposal management area, Mananda Umbrella Joint Venture for providing EMPNG with a dump truck and working tools. As well as other volunteers, the Mewayo family and the local environment group – Wildlife Management Authority.
“Promoting teamwork through community partnered approach continues to be a key focus to help protect the environment we all share and enjoy,” said Kadam.
The Kaimari market is accessed by communities around Kutubu and Moran areas.
The market provides a source of income for farmers in the nearby villages who sell surplus produce from their garden and other cooked and baked items.
Julie Mewayo acting on behalf of Kaimari Market owner, Moses Mewayo welcomed the EMPNG team and said the cleanup demonstrated in a simple way that we can collectively do our part to take care of the environment.
“Thank you EMPNG for letting your workforce participate in this exercise and adding value to building a good relationship with the community,” said Mewayo.
