Climate change office works to improve governance structure

The Climate Change Development Authority (CCDA) is working on improving its governance structure and internal finance management system.

Minister for Environment and Conservation, John Pundari, said in Parliament on Friday that this is a way forward for CCDA as the national designated authority for the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

GCF was established to assist developing countries finance their mitigation and adaptation programs.

Pundari said the aim is to create a strong financial management system which meets the GCF’s requirements and standards.

He highlighted that CCDA would like to qualify to be an accredited entity, for the purpose of accessing direct finance from the Green Climate Fund.

In this regard, technical assistance and support will be needed from the GCF, stated the Minister.

Meantime, GCF officials will be in the country next month to carry out a workshop with the CCDA.

GCF’s visit to PNG is to facilitate the readiness and preparatory stage, purposely for the accessing of climate finance.
