The 11 2016 Digicel Cup team captains today gathered at the Laguna Hotel in Port Moresby.
The teams are: Mendi Muruks, Rabaul Gurias, Goroka Lahanis, Port Moresby Vipers, Enga Mioks, Mt Hagen Eagles, Gulf Isapea, TNA Lions, Hela Wigmen, Waghi Tumbe and Lae Snax Tigers. The gathering was so that the captains would have a photoshoot with the Cup that was flown in from Kokopo, East New Britain Province, this morning. Reigning premiers Agmark (Rabaul) Guria Captain Nelson Daplen flew in with the prized trophy for the photoshoot.
The 2016 Digicel Cup competition kicks off next Sunday, April 17. Each round will consist of five matches and one team will sit out with a bye. Rounds 16 to 20 are finals series and will be decided at the completion of Round 16.
The first round will see Isapea take on Vipers in Moresby, Eagles will play Tumbe at Rabiamul Oval (Mt Hagen), Lahanis will take on Muruks at the National Sports Institute (EHP), Lions will battle with Wigmen in Mendi and Gurias will play Mioks at Kalabond (ENB) while Tigers will be on bye.
