15 companies on board for Daffodil Cup Golf Challenge

Fifteen companies have so far registered for the 2016 Daffodil Cup Golf Challenge set for Friday, August 12, at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club.

The companies include Exxon Mobil, Kwila Insurance, ANZ Bank and Pacific MMI Insurance, which was the first to register.

The annual charity golf challenge is organised by the Papua New Guinea Cancer Foundation.

It was launched on June 21 in Port Moresby with registration open to corporate companies and individual groups.

Over 30 teams are expected to take part with early bird registration fee of K3, 000. Those that register as of August 1 will pay a fee of K3, 500.

The Port Moresby Daffodil Cup Golf Challenge is sponsored by Oil Search every year to raise funds for cancer prevention and education in PNG.

The PNGCF will use the funds from this event to conduct free mouth and breast cancer screening programs in six provinces within PNG in 2017.

The PNG Institute of Medical Research estimates that 1 in 10 deaths in PNG are cancer-related.

PNGCF marketing and fundraising manager Hayley Chown encouraged companies to come on board as there’s still time to register with registrations coming in daily to the PNGCF office.

Chown said: “We have a fantastic day planned for the participants and are very excited to see who will win the 2016 Challenge.”

The PNGCF invites their valuable supporters to join the Golf Challenge and help raise as much funds as possible to assist.

PNGCF chief executive officer Dadi Toka Jr said Daffodil Month represents hope for a healthy PNG.

He encourages everyone to challenge themselves to reduce their risk of cancer by making healthy lifestyle choices.

“Join us in August and eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly and protect your family. Don’t smoke, don’t chew betelnut and reduce your alcohol intake,” he said.

Dadi Toka Jr. expressed appreciation to Oil Search for actively being involved in the work of PNGCF.
