Women farmers trained on crop production

A four-day crops production skills training for Rigo district women farmers ended last Friday at the NARI Training Centre, Laloki in Central Province.

37 women farmers from various local level government areas in Rigo district learnt basic skills on financial management, crop production skills and farm management that includes land management and commercial marketing.

Central Province Agriculture and Livestock Advisor, Kila Gege, said a total of 12 such trainings for famers have been planned and funded in partnership with Taiwanese government.

Additionally, Gege said following the recent launch of the Central Province small holder maize project at Ilimo Farm, a total of 40 farmers are farming corn with possibilities to increase to 100 farmers in the future.

He said the corn market is huge and Central Province farmers need to consult his office to start farming corn in the province.
