Having fun at the RSPCA stall!

The RSPCA of PNG had loads of fun during the recent World Environment Day celebrations at the Port Moresby Nature Park.

Community liaison coordinator, Brigitte Baki-Ta’u, says the event, hosted by the Port Moresby Nature Park, was another success!

“Many organisations were happy to participate and talk about their contributions to saving or helping maintain our environment clean and healthy for all,” she said.

The World Environment Day theme for this year was ‘Connecting people to nature’.

So how does the RSPCA of PNG connect people to nature?

  • As an organisation that helps the majority of domestic animals within the country, we always encourage pet owners (especially those who own doggies), to spend time with their pets doing outdoor activities. These activities may be exercising the dog by playing around the yard or taking the dog for a walk. This can be just around the neighbourhood or bring the dog to the beach for a swim.
  • Through our education program we teach about responsible pet owners, which touches on points about keeping our environment clean, example, picking up doggy poop and other rubbish after their doggies. Our program also teaches about wildlife conservation. This encourages students/audience to appreciate that our wildlife creatures belong in the wild and should be left there. In doing so, people go out into nature to see our beautiful creatures.
