Wabag DDA to be responsible for market

Farming is the only fair SME that works for the people, says Wabag Open MP, Dr. Lino Tom.

He was speaking at an MOU signing to hand over the ownership of the Wabag Town Market to the District Development Authority.

The people in the Wabag Open electorate have been without a proper market since 2012.

Before taking up the office of the Wabag Open MP, Dr. Tom made Wabag market one of his key priority projects as for far too long, the people of Wabag have suffered since work on the market development was stalled.

The MOU signing on Friday sees the handover of the ownership of the Wabag market land title under trustees Wabag District Rural Holdings, transferred to the DDA.

Former Wabag Open MP, Sam Abal, created the Wabag District Rural Holdings, which makes up the three LLGs to assist with a chicken factory and a vegetable depot for the people.

After he was ousted in 2012, the market was shut down and development stalled while the people of Wabag were the biggest losers in this political change.

If anything, Dr. Tom is adamant that agriculture is the way forward for the people of Wabag and with the closure of Pogera mine, the development of a vibrant economy is vital for the people to sustain their future.
