Youth Arts Programme (YAP)

Youth art illustrates changing times

Dedicated to empowering the youth of Port Moresby through artistic expression and personal growth, YAP 2023 promises to be a transformative experience like never before.

In a groundbreaking collaboration, MAT joins hands with the esteemed University of Goroka (I-JOG) for the seventh consecutive year, marking a remarkable milestone in the pursuit of artistic talent and community education. This dynamic partnership reinforces MAT's commitment to utilizing the arts as a powerful tool for education and awareness.

MAT prepares for 18th Youth Arts Programme

The MAT, a non-profit NGO, is dedicated to the development of the artistic community in Port Moresby. The programme is an exciting educational art activity designed specifically for the youth of Port Moresby.

This year's theme is "Creating Papua New Guinea's Future of Performing Arts and portray possible futures through dramatised plays".

The programme will run from 2nd August through to 2nd September and MAT is expecting over 500 students from 9 secondary schools.

Support for Youth in Arts

Since 2016, the YAP has done well to educate the young in understanding social issues in the country through physical and oral storytelling, with hopes to inspire social confidence and self-awareness in this new generation.

This year, through this wonderful partnership, YAP has reached yet another level with teachers and former UOG-YAP participants teaching grade nine students in high schools in Port Moresby, bringing them to attend YAP at the Moresby Arts Theatre.
