World Environment Day 2022

Kiunga Town Cleaned Up

The staff were seen in various protective wear to protect themselves from the heavy downpour as they cleaned around the town.

After cleaning, the staff joined OTML staff at the Bige Stockpile site to plant trees to mark the day.

The theme for World Environment Day ‘Only one Earth’ and was organized by the OTML Bige Operations.

WPU Marks World Environment Day

WPU held celebrations on Friday the 3rd of June and commenced with a panel discussion on the topic ‘Why does environmental sustainability matter for a new university like WPU?’

The panel was made up of academic, project and administration staff as well as first and second year students.

It was well represented with all factions that made up the WPU community and saw each panelist give one recommendation on what he or she thought would be an effective way for WPU to ensure that it contributed to being environmentally friendly.

Protect Coastlines and Islands

The set up at the APEC Haus is a series of events in lead up to World Environment Day, which falls on Sunday, June 5th.

They are involving volunteers to plant 20'000 mangroves in the Bootless Bay next month with their main partner the Nature Conservancy. Manning the booth is Jimmy Matapi Peter, Chairperson of the Red Cross and the Lead in the Bootless Bay Alliance. 

Activities Lined Up To Mark Environment Day

In partnership with the National Capital District Commission, Amazing Port Moresby is hosting a student exhibition, a documentary filming paired with question and answer sessions at the APEC Haus followed by a beach clean-up and an SME market at Ela Beach and environmentally-themed performances. 

The first event starts today with the Amazing Port Moresby World Environment Day Exhibition. School project exhibitions with booths from NGOs, government agencies and corporates is on display at the APEC Haus. 

City prepares for environment roadshow

The National Capital District Commission and sector partners namely Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA), Climate Change and Development Authority, and international agencies will be hosting a 3 day roadshow of events at APEC Haus, at Ela Beach.

The celebration of Environment Day at KilaKila Secondary school today, is a lead up to the 3 day roadshow which will begin on Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th of June.
