World Cancer Day

K92 Mining gifts to cancer patients

They were treated with a cake and individual gift packs to bring a smile and cheer into the lives of cancer patients.

Gender Officer, Orpah Peter who led the team during the distribution of the gifts said, “As partners with the Eastern Highlands Provincial Health Authority (EHPHA) they are committed to caring for inpatients at the hospital. And as such we can at least bring smiles to the faces of the patients”.

Stop tobacco and betelnut!

This was the message from WHO Country Representative to Papua New Guinea, Dr. Pieter van Maaren.

“The incidence of oral cancer is rising, primarily caused by the chewing of betelnut, with the associated mustard and lime,” stated Dr van Maaren in his World Cancer Day message on Feb 4.

“Combined with tobacco use, the risk of developing oral cancer further increases.

Love and be loved

If there is one message Loop lifestyle would like to stress, it would be to love and be loved.

As stated in the WCD factsheet, cancer affects everyone in a patient’s life in different ways.

Partners, families and friends can take steps to work together through the challenges of cancer and its treatment so that no one faces the disease alone.

There is no ‘right way’ for a cancer patient and their partner to cope with cancer, but there are actions that couples can take to support each other through this challenging time.
