ENB districts to benefit from German project

The project is funded by the German international aid agency known as GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit/German Corporation for International Cooperation), and a team, including partners like the South Pacific Community.

Rabaul to implement PacFreshH20 Project

This initiative is funded under the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) through the International Climate Initiative (IKI), and collaborating with the Pacific Community (SPC) as the managing director for funds distribution in PNG and WaterAid PNG as the implementing agency.

Phase two PNG WaSH work

The workshop is for a phase 2 of the Water for Women Consortium project on Tuesday, 8th of August in Port Moresby.

The inception workshop aims to bring together key government stakeholders and partners to align support for Water for Women Consortium (WfWC) Phase 2.

The workshop will outline the WfWC project objectives, scope and requirements for the new phase in which it provides an overview of previous phase’s successes, challenges as well as lessons learnt and will also layout the groundwork for what is expected in the new phase.

Hygiene awareness for Madang netballers

The program also known as the Hamamas long Pilai, under the Team Up program aimed for children playing netball under the Madang Netball Association.

Madang is the third province they have visited, this program ultimately seeks not only to teach children about the correct skills in netball, but also to teach them about basic hygiene skills, which is essential for a healthy body when playing sports.

WaSH Promoted Through Sport

The Hamamas Long Pilai Program is an initiative of One Netball PNG under a partnership between Netball Australia, WaterAid PNG and Netball PNG supported by the PNG-Australia Partnership through the Australian Sports Partnership Program. 

The program utilises netball as a vehicle to deliver Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) outcomes in schools. 

Under One Netball PNG, two programs are delivered including the shorter Come and Play and the longer seven weeks Hamamas Lo Pilai (HLP) program.

WaSH Facility Launched In Ginigolo Gunugau

The ventilated improved pit (VIP) facility included nine standard toilets, four for boys and five for girls.

The facility also included, two 9000 liters reserve water tanks and two toilets specifically designed for Persons with Disabilities.

509 students stand to benefit from these facilities.

Ginigolo Gunugau Primary School is one of the selected schools under the WaterAid PNG Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Schools Projects funded through Aqua for Life project (Giorgi Armani) and Latter Day Saints Charity.

Policies Covering Menstrual Health Lacking

National Youth Development Authority (NYDA) Principal Advisor, David Rupa, as part of the panelist raised issues of non-organizational work and government policies and the lack of data and research.

This was also concern raised by WaterAid who was the hosting organization with QueenPads PNG.

Mr Rupa said through the NYDA, they are currently setting youth governance and youth voice structures for the youth council network.

Ginigolo School Gets WaSH Facilities

About 500 students will benefit from the ventilated Pit toilet blocks and is inclusive of facilities that support menstrual hygiene management.

Present at the launching were representatives from Department of Education, QueenPads and donor Church of Latter Day Saints.

Pari Village To Have Clean Water

The initiative is by WaterAid PNG’s Water for Women Consortium (WfWC) project in partnership with Motukoita Assembly (MKA) and Water PNG.

Staff from WaterAid PNG and MKA visited Pari village this week to identify and assess possible sites to install pre-fabricated water kiosks.

WaterAid Senior Technical WASH Officer, Shirlee Dindillo-Rovou said the visit was to carry out initial feasibility inspection on potential water kiosks sites identified by MKA.

“Information such as land ownership, accessibility & site suitability was collected during this exercise.

Netball match to promote hand washing

The match played at the Rita Flynn courts yesterday was attended by Australian Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove.

The main aim of the partnership is to improve grassroots sports participation; to improve hygiene behaviours alongside access to safe water and sanitation; and the participation and leadership of women and girls.

President, Julienne Leka Maliaki said Netball PNG was grateful for the opportunity to promote this partnership which is fundamental to rural communities.
