Testicles allegedly cut off during argument

From Enga province, Thomas Warepa appeared at the Waigani District Court on Friday where a ruling was supposed to be handed down.

That ruling did not take place because Warepa is illiterate and cannot read nor understand his case files.

Warepa was arrested and has been in court over allegations he attacked another man and cut off his testicles.

"Your case is an unusual one. You had an issue with another man, you grabbed his testicles and broke them. You caused grievous bodily harm to this man," Magistrate Cosmas Bidar told him.

Man in court for raping 19-year-old

The man, whose identity will be withheld in this report, had been appearing in court since his arrest in March. He is related to the victim's mother and is known to the victim.

He told the court he gave instructions to his lawyer to file submissions to respond to the police investigation files however, that was not done when he went to court last Friday.

Arrested and charged with sexual penetration, abduction and deprivation of liberty, the man went to the home of the victim on March 19 this year looking for her older brother,whom he claimed he had some problems with.

Woitape man arrested and charged for murder

Magistrate Cosmas Bidar sounded the warning when reading to court the allegations against a Woitape man from Central Province who was arrested and charged over the murder of another man at the Kone Tigers oval in Waigani last month.

Alex Kelei appeared at the Waigani District Court on Friday where his charge was read and explained to him in court.

Kelei was arrested over allegations he chopped a man on both his legs during a fight at the oval on Aug 27.

Former Maprik MP appear in court

He briefly appeared with his lawyer before Magistrate John Kaumi where his charges were read and explained to him before the case was adjourned for two months to allow police to continue their investigations.

Kapris is expected back in court on Dec 6 for mention.

The 53-year-old from Suapri village; Maprik District in the East Sepik Province was arrested in Port Moresby last month.

Oro man on trial for false pretense

Lucian Kaitora of Emo village, Northern Province will return to the District Court next month with his lawyer for the trial.

Senior District Court Magistrate Cosmas Bidar in deferring the trial to October said the Police Prosecution team is expected to call three witnesses for the trial.

The trial which was set for today could not proceed to a hearing as Kaitora’s lawyer was out of Port Moresby on Duty travel.

Police allege Kaitora on Sept 23 last year at the DCA compound at Kondobu sold a 40ft container to a Jacob Gubi with the intent to defraud him.

60yo European in court over allegations of stealing

60-year-old Alexander Georgiev, of Bulgaria, briefly appeared before Magistrate John Kaumi where his charges were read to him before his case was adjourned to Sept 22.

Police allege that between late December 2015 and 15 July, along the Sir Hubert Murray Highway, Georgiev stole machines and equipment valued at K1.5m, the property of Dennis Kai. He allegedly stole the properties from Kai’s premises at Burns Peak, Port Moresby.

Malaysian government wants Woo’s passport

This occurred while his passport was still in the custody of the District Court registry.

The embassy filed a notice of motion before the Waigani District Court on Aug 12 asking the court to hand the passport over.

The matter came before the court on Tuesday however, could not proceed as Woo’s lawyers were not in court. It was deferred to another date next week.

“The Malaysian embassy was never interested in his case and now that they want his passport, it’s something the court does not understand,” Magistrate Bidar said when he adjourned the motion yesterday.

Case against late Okuk withdrawn

The information against the late Okuk was dismissed today after the court was asked to do so by the late Okuk’s lawyer, Samson Javati.

Javati was unable to provide a death certificate however, he presented a newspaper notice of the funeral service program of the late Okuk. He passed on after a long illness on July 27.

Magistrate Cosmas Bidar withdrew the information charging Okuk, dismissed the case and ordered a refund of K500 bail.

Aki’s lawyer told to serve submissions

Aki briefly appeared at a District Court sitting at Bomana this morning; seven months on after his case first came for mention. His lawyer was not in court today.

Magistrate John Kaumi ordered him to get his lawyer to serve his submissions on the completed police investigation files to the police prosecution team before the matter returns on Aug 22. 

From Tambul in the Western Highlands Province, 38-year-old Aki was arrested on January 5 this year and charged for the wilful murder of his wife.

District Court ruling on Kavo case deferred

The Committal Court on April 22 ruled it was satisfied that there is an existence of sufficient prima facie evidence on the charge of misappropriation against Kavo.

What was returnable today in court was a ruling that was supposed to be made to Kavo’s section 96 statements or his response to the district court finding sufficient evidence against him.

This will now take place on May 24.

Kavo of Herekela village, Ihu district, Gulf province was arrested on June 17, 2015, on misappropriation charges and released two days later on a K5,000 bail.
