Church Leaders Uncertain

They expressed their thoughts at a press conference yesterday, Friday 5th of November, led by BOC Deputy Chairman, Pastor Michael Wilson, in which a 21-day prayer and fasting was called.

He said the churches had met previously and discussed the issues surrounding COVID-19, which had affected the daily lives of everyone.

He related to the two precious 21-day prayer and fast, which were held during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and second wave in 2020 and 2021.

Airlines increasingly unlikely to fly unvaccinated passengers to Australia

Most international airlines who fly into Australia are likely to accept only vaccinated passengers, with larger carriers now considering whether it is logistically and commercially viable to sell tickets to unvaccinated travellers. Some carriers have had their allocation of unvaccinated passengers capped at zero.

Partial lockdown of Waigani Supreme and National courts

In a statement issued by Jack Kariko, Secretary for the National Judicial Staff Services, the scale down came into effect on yesterday 19 October. It will be lifted next Tuesday 26 October.

Kariko said only urgent court matters will be heard during this partial lock down period.

Further, the statement stated that all staff are required to get vaccinated and are required to show the ‘green vaccination card’ before they can be allowed entry into the premises.

The notice also applies to all court users.

Wong sends condolence message

He relayed this message at yesterday’s the launching of a handbook by the Council of Churches supporting the government’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts in Port Moresby.

“I pass my condolences to the families of our people who have lost loved ones to this dreadful disease that has engulf our country,” he said.  

To date, the National Control Centre has reported 266 COVID-19 related deaths and 24, 041 COVID-19 cases.

Provincial Controller and Provincial Administrator John Gimisive has issued a number of prevention measures to contain the spread of the virus, as it has already spread province-wide, reaching some of the remotest parts of the province.

Certain restrictions have been imposed.

In the statement released by Gimisive, the number of morbidities and mortalities is increasing every day.

Gov’t Staff Vaccinated

The staff who were present had the opportunity to choose between the Johnson and Johnson vaccine or AstraZeneca vaccine.

The Speaker of Parliament Job Pomat and several staff from the Speaker’s office also received the COVID-19 vaccination.

Mr Pomat said he opted for the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, and he would like to see more people come forward to be vaccinated. He stressed that the staff are not forced to be vaccinated but emphasized that vaccination is an individual’s choice.

Australia's Qantas says all staff must be vaccinated

Frontline workers including pilots, cabin crew and airport staff must be fully vaccinated by mid-November.

The company says its remaining employees have until the end of March next year to receive both doses.

It comes as the state of New South Wales reported its biggest daily rise in coronavirus infections.

The Australian flag carrier is the country's biggest, most high-profile company to introduce a mandatory vaccination policy.

Jennifer Aniston defends cutting ties with unvaccinated friends

The Friends and The Morning Show star said in an InStyle magazine interview published this week that there was still a "large group of people who are anti-vaxxers or just don't listen to the facts".

She added that she had, unfortunately, "lost a few people" from her weekly routine who would not disclose if they had been vaccinated.

Vaccination A Challenge

The routine immunization program is affected due to misinformation and myths about COVID-19 vaccination.

EHP Director for Public Health, Dr. Max Manape said when people hear about COVID-19 vaccination they think it has many side effects because of the conspiracy theory on social media. 

He said therefore routine immunization on polio, measles or pentavalent for all other diseases is affected and the coverage in the province was going down.

Dr Manape said from that perspective they have realized that its lack of understanding among the community.
