University of Goroka (UOG)

UOG council meeting underway

The council members, including UOG chancellor Joseph Sukwianomb, arrived in East Sepik Province yesterday to conduct the first council meeting in Maprik.

This meeting will see the setting of strategies and initiatives for the university’s academic year as well as Maprik district’s resource centre's plans.

The eight members, led by the chancellor and vice chancellor, conducted the meeting at around 10am today.

The outcome of the gathering is expected to be announced later in the afternoon.

One year later: UOG still awaits funds

UOG chancellor Joseph Sukwianomb said: “It’s putting a huge pressure because we rely on Government for funding, as the major sponsor.

“This money is to meet expenses we incurred last year (during the students’ boycott).”

He confirmed that the university administration is patiently following up with the Chief Secretary to the Government and Finance Secretary.

Report: UOG staff must be trained on discipline enforcement

This was one of the recommendations proposed by the UOG Investigation Committee that conducted an investigation into the conflict among students in June.

Committee chairman and UOG Council member, Lawrence Titimur, said by training the staff, they will take full responsibility when dealing with internal matters.

Titimur explained that when a member of the staff commits a breach of law, his immediate supervisor has a responsibility to carry out discipline on that particular officer.
