Howard, New UN Resident Coordinator

The official presentation took place at the Office of the Minister in Port Moresby.

Minister Tkatchenko welcomed Howard to Papua New Guinea and congratulated him on the appointment.

“I am looking forward to working closely with the UN and work towards bringing long-term benefits to the people of Papua New Guinea,” said Minister Tkatchenko.

No Growth Without Peace: Wagener

Wagener made this statement as he led a joint mission of United Nations agencies, development partners and national government representatives to Hela and Southern Highlands to visit communities the UN is supporting to create conditions for peace and development.

Wagener added: “Development partners are keen to see how they can support peace building in local communities, but they can only provide support when the community is serious about achieving and sustaining peace.” 

Special Purposes Lease for UN

Justin Tkatchenko, Minister for Lands & Physical Planning, presented the lease to Gianluca Rampolla, United Nations Resident Coordinator, in a recent ceremony held at the office of Lands Department.

The issuance of the lease is a milestone for the UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes in Papua New Guinea.

New UN resident official presents credentials

Gianluca Rampolla officially takes up his post in-country.

During the meeting, Rampolla and Pato discussed prospects for deepening the strategic partnership between the Government of Papua New Guinea and the United Nations in realising the Sustainable Development Goals as well as national development and peacebuilding priorities.

“It was a great honour to meet with Mr. Rimbink Pato and to present him with the Letter of Credentials from the UN Secretary-General, appointing me as the UN resident coordinator in Papua New Guinea,” Rampolla said.
