Thor F. Jensen

Sailor on mission to revive sailing traditions

As a master sailor from Milne Bay, John joined a delegation of West Pacific voyagers and canoe builders on a speaking tour to Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

The delegation spoke to scientists, politicians, and representatives from over 120 countries.

Five years ago, John led a circumnavigation of New Guinea in a traditional canoe, after which he and his brother Justin John founded Pasana Group.

A night of adventure

But if seafarers in the past have succeeded, the ancient seafaring wisdom will prove worthy again.

A journey which began in August 2016 where, for the last nine months, a Danish adventurer and filmmaker Thor F. Jensen has been sailing around PNG and Papua in a Milne Bay traditional sailing canoe.

This may be the world’s first circumnavigation of the island of New Guinea in a traditional sailing canoe.

Danish filmmaker tours PNG in dugout canoe

His journey began on August 30 and he plans to cover around 6500km in 6 to 9 months.

Jensen is a young Danish adventure filmmaker, illustrator and speaker who has paddled around Denmark by kayak and crossed the North Atlantic by sailing boat.

He has a significant knowledge and great interest in tropical fauna and has a fascination for indigenous people around the world and their ways of life.

Jensen started his journey at Tawali Resort in Milne Bay Province and this is where he will end his journey.
