Palais to take on New Zealand in opener

The game at Allianz Stadium will kick off at 2:20pm local time (3:20pm PNG time).

The Palais then play Canada at 4:40pm the same afternoon followed by the last match at night against France at 7:22pm.

Pools for the two day tournament:

Pool A: New Zealand, Canada, France, PNG. Pool B: Australia, Fiji, Ireland, Brazil. Pool C: Russia, England, Spain, USA.

The finals will be on Saturday.

This Saturday in Sydney will also see the men’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2016-17 take place.

Man arrested over New Year's Eve 'threats' in Sydney, police say

The 40-year-old man was arrested at Sydney Airport on Thursday after arriving on a plane from London.

The alleged threats were made on social media, said Acting Deputy Commissioner Frank Mennilli.

Police also raided a house and a storage facility in Sydney, seizing documents and computer hard drives.

There was no remaining threat to the community, police said. However, they would not provide details of the alleged threats while the matter was before the court.

PNG set to exploit potential developments

Treasurer, Patrick Pruaitch when delivering his speech today at the 14th Mining conference in Sydney, Australia echoed these sentiments.

He said as interest rates in advanced countries normalised, global economic conditions will also improve and become more predictable.

He added that the 2017 budgets are highly conservative and do not take into account PNG’s increased economic resilience as well as the remaining potential for major new resource projects.

Government yet to negotiate for construction of P’nyang

Treasurer Patrick Pruaitch said the construction might start in 2018 or 2019.

Speaking at the 14th Mining Conference in Sydney this morning, Pruaitch said: “With the benefit of hindsight, I assure you we would have done things differently if we had known commodity prices were primed to fall. Instead we went for expansionary budgets.”

He said PNG’s total borrowings would have been far less in 2014 and 2015 when the government accounted for almost half the total debt raised during this five-year term.

“We now have facilities to host such conferences and the government must make a conservative effort to make use of the facilities in the country.”

He said such conferences will only make sense if it is being hosted in the country as the resources and landowners are in the country and can attend.

This is evident in the discovery and appraisal of significant copper-gold prospects in Kile Teke, which is west of Porgera Mine, and in the Star Mountains north of the Ok Ted Mine.

An accidental fashion designer, Genevieve passed on a career in economics to follow her passion to create beautiful garments with a Papua New Guinean twist.

Starting her label in 2015, Genevieve has been awarded Miss Pacific Islands Pageant Project Runway 2015 and 2016; Stella Runway 2016 Designer of the Year; and dresser for Miss Papua New Guinea 2015 and 2016.
