Last respects paid to slain cops

The officers were killed in the line of duty during the 2017, National General Elections, in Mendi where they were allegedly ambushed while on duty.

The Sioni Kami memorial church was packed with families, relatives, friends and representatives from the RPNGC, AFP and the provincial government who were there to pay their last respects.

The slain officers were travelling with three others when another vehicle with armed attackers pulled up alongside the police vehicle and sprayed bullets on the occupants, killing the two officers instantly.

State funeral arranged for late MP

Late Anisi collapsed and died on 24 May in Port Moresby, a day before departing to Wewak, to campaign for the Ambunti-Dreikikir Open seat in East Sepik Province.

The first-term MP was elected to Parliament at the age of 25, after polling 11,200 votes in the 2012 Elections.

According to a family member, the service to commemorate the life of the late parliamentarian will be held at the Sione Kami Memorial Church on April 8, and the casket will depart for Wewak the next day.

A family member did not reveal the cause of death, but told Loop PNG that the first term parliamentarian was having difficulty in his movement and was bedridden before his death.

He confirmed that the office of the Clerk of Parliament is organising the Port Moresby program, and the tentative date is next week.

The East Sepik Member of Parliament died in Port Moresby on 24 May. He was collecting his election materials when he collapsed at a guest house.

Late Governor-General a respected figure: PM

 “Sir Michael served his country and people with high dignity (and) humility, as a teacher, long serving Member of Parliament, Minister of State, Deputy Prime Minister, and later our Governor- General,” O’Neill said. 

The prime minister made this statement when paying tribute to the country’s 9th Governor-General at his State Funeral on Friday in Port Moresby.

O’Neill said Sir Michael’s vast experience in public life served him well as the country’s Head of State.

The late GG was a teacher and provincial and national politician for 37 years.
