Speakers paid tribute to the landowner companies of Petroleum Resources Kutubu Limited, Mineral Resources Star Mountain Limited and Mineral Resources Ok Tedi Limited for investing in this billion-kina property.

On behalf of the beneficiaries back home, Managing Director and CEO of Mineral Resources Development Corporation Augustine Mano acknowledged the efforts towards establishing the K1.4 billion project. 

Mano recounted the long process involved in reaching this milestone achievement for the landowners.

The event marked the completion of planning, design and construction of the Hilton Hotel and the Kutubu Convention Centre ahead of the APEC Forum.

The event was attended by MRDC Managing Director, Augustine Mano, Hilton Hotels Vice President Operation Australasia, Heidi Kunkel, and Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

It was an evening splashed with colourful traditional dancing and singing.

The joint venture between the PNG Government and three major landowner companies was attended by ministers, governors and other dignitaries.

The landmark Star Mountain Plaza conference, accommodation and retail development is a multi-use facility, designed to help PNG attract more overseas visitors in future generations.

Mineral Resource Development Companies (MRDC) managing director Augustine Mano says construction on the venue is now expected to be completed in September - two months prior to the start of APEC.

Mr Mano says the project is on schedule due to the efforts of more than 800 team members who have worked in shifts 24 hours a day to ensure its early completion.
