Government must increase funding to support programs

This was stressed yesterday by Cardinal Sir John Ribat at the opening of the first ever HIV Summit for PNG Christian Leaders Alliance on HIV and AIDS at the Stanley Hotel.

Cardinal Ribat said the PNG Christian Leaders Alliance on HIV and AIDS is an association of heads of churches who have joined forces to demonstrate their leadership support and commitment towards addressing root causes of HIV.

“This includes other related issues or cross cutting issues in PNG,” he said.

The summit started off with welcoming remarks by the Chairman for PNG Christian Leaders Alliance in HIV and Aids, His Eminence, Sir John Cardinal Ribat.

Cardinal Ribat said one of the great intentions for the HIV Summit is to bring the Head of Churches together so that they are able to speak about this virus that is causing danger to our lives in this nation and that they work together, be one voice in advocating care, peace and unity.

“Today is one moment where we can share this intention and talk about it and work towards promoting it in future,” he said.

Give tourists a reason to return: Hotel

PNG has no problem with attracting tourists, the only issue that confronts the country is setting up hotels to suit the needs of the tourists, stated the manager.

More is yet to be attained in this industry as Hannan also pointed out that one of the most significant problems with PNG’s tourism industry is that most hotels in the country tend to compete with each other, instead of working together to improve and further promote the industry.

Stanley to host APEC's ministerial meetings

This was announced by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill during the Grand Opening of the hotel last night (Oct 20).

He said some of the meetings included APEC working groups and Ministers.

“The grand ballroom will most likely host the meeting of APEC Senior Officials and Trade and Foreign Affairs,” said O’Neill.

Earlier in the day, the APEC Haus ground turning was held to begin work on the old Sea Park.

The APEC Haus will host Prime Ministers and Presidents of the 21 APEC countries in 2018.

Stanley Hotel officially opened for business

He said this during the Grand Opening of the five star hotel in Port Moresby last night (Oct 20).

O’Neill said the change in the country was a result of government policy implementations, government partnerships with the private sector, and Second LNG project.

“Our country is changing, and it is bringing better opportunities for our citizens and businesses.

“And this Stanley Hotel is part of that change. I welcome this hotel and it gives me great pleasure to officially open this hotel,” O’Neill said.

NA Party to host fundraising dinner

Parliamentary leader and Minister for Treasury Patrick Pruaitch said the party has a legacy of a political party that functions as a serious political organization.

"It has had its challenges, its ups and downs and is now ever determined to rise up again through the normal electoral processes to be the leading political party," says Pruaitch.

The dinner will be held at the Stanley Hotel and Suites with entertainment by Patti Potts Doi and the Mysterious Tabar Dancers.
