Spain thanks Nigeria for good match

Speaking at the post- match press conference, coach Lopez said his side unfortunately didn't carry out their gam plane well in the midfield.

Nigeria coach Peter Dedevbo was happy with his girls saying this was the best match they've played so far in the competition.

Player of Match Chinwendu Ihezuo was overwhelmed for their win thanking God for it.

"God did it for us. I feel very excited and happy”, the overwhelmed player of the match said in tears.

Nigeria upset Spain 2-1 at PNG Football Stadium

Both teams registered one goals each in the first half of the match.

Spain's midfielder Alba Redonzo scored the first and only goal against Nigeria in the 5th minute.

Nigeria responded with its first goal in the 11th minute which was scored by midfielder Ihuoma Onyebuchi leveling the scores at 1-all.

Going into the second half on equal points, Nigeria put the Spaniads under pressure in the early minutes of the match.

Spain and Nigeria deadlocked at 1- all at halftime

It was a good start to the match with both teams having equal possession of the ball in the first three minutes of the match.

Nigeria's Lillian Tule received a yellow card in the 5th minute which Spain used in its advantage.

Spain go to top in Group B

Spain kicked off the rivalry by scoring 5-0 against Canada in their opening match last Sunday and completed the second victory in game 11 yesterday against Japan to climb to the top.

Both teams were leveled at 3 points each before last night’s game when Spain toppled Japan to take the lead by 3 points.

 So with the four teams in Group B, Spain currently takes the lead with 6 points while Japan is tailing on 3.

Japan goes down to Spain 1-0

Although Japan provided stiff opposition for the reigning champions, a direct penalty kick conceived by Maria Caldentey from a hand ball by Hisui Haza ultimately gave Spain a fairly comfortable victory.

As is so often the case, Japan struck at the opening minutes in the first half with several attempts by skipper Ruka Norimatsu culminating Japans circuit on the pitch but Spain backliners could not allow Japan forwards through as both teams went off for break at nil all.

Spain beat Canada 5-0

The Spaniards dominated the first half in its match against Canada at the Bava park.

With the setting sun behind them, they registered their first goal in the opening minutes of the match with a kick from number 9, Lucia Gomez.

The side captained by No. 7, Nahikari Garcia,  had more possession of the ball in the first half than the Canadians.

Canada's defenders came under heavy attack in the first half with Spain having more attempts at the goalmouth.

The Spaniards found the net again at the 30th minute with a kick from No. 20, Lucia Garcia.

Bava Park to host two matches on Day One

While the opening ceremony will be taking place at the Sir John Guise Stadium, Bava Park will host its first match at 4pm between Spain will take on Canada.

The Spaniards will be bidding to break down Canada's defensive fortress with key players Andrea Sierra, Nahikari Garcia and Sandra Hernandez.

The Canadians will be hoping to build on a positive showing with the help of key players Sarah Stratigakis and Bianca St. Georges after they reached the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup.

Japan takes the field to play Nigeria at 7pm.

Final countdown to FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup kick-off

Four matches will be played today at two separate venues.

Pool A matches will be played at the Sir John Guise (SJG) stadium and Pool B matches will be played at Bava Park.

The first two matches will kick off at 4pm.

Sweden and Korea DPR will take the field after the opening ceremony at the SJG stadium in front of an expected sellout crowd.

Sweden will be banking on key players Stina Blackstenius, Nathalie Bjorn and Tove Almqvist. Korea DPR has key players Ri Un Sim and Ri Kyong Hyang to help them through to victory.

Moresby South’s 400 girls involved in FIFA games

The countries under the care of the electorate will be Spain, Nigeria, Brazil, and France.

Minister for Sports, APEC, and National Events, Justin Tkatchenko, said shirts will be printed with the flags of each country and given to the girls to wear as chaperones for each country.

He said the teams will have about two to three days between matches and will have time to visit the city and so will be looked after by the girls.

Scores injured in gas explosion near Malaga, Spain

The blast happened in a cafe in the town of Velez-Malaga at about 17:00 GMT during a local festival.

Pictures from the scene show severe damage to the La Bohemia cafe and debris strewn across a street.

Local newspaper La Opinion de Malaga said that the chef had raised the alarm moments before the blast.
