SP Launches Sustainable Development Plan

Through its parent company Heineken, SP Brewery launched a 2030 Sustainability plan that aims to support the delivery of the UN SDGs, and out of 17 Sustainable Development Goals, SP Brewery focuses on nine areas in:

Zero Alcohol Beer

The Heineken 0.0 (zero zero), launched today in Port Moresby, promises the same great tasting beer, but with zero alcohol. The launch makes SP Brewery one of 59 other Heineken operating companies who have introduced the beer into their markets.

SP Brewery Managing Director, Ed Weggemans said the company is committed to introducing new and innovative products to meet and develop consumer needs.

SP Brewery Boosts Team PNG

Team PNG received a K143,000 cheque from SP Brewery in Port Moresby to assist the  Team prepares for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.

Corporate Affairs Manager, John Nilkare, said the SPB has a strong and long-term relationship with the PNG Olympic Committee (PNGOC), dating back as far as the early 1980’s, during the days of the Pepsi Fun Run, when it was the major sponsor.

He said the Company has supported sports through other marquee events such as the SP Sports Awards, since 1992, in partnership with the PNGOC and PNG Sports Foundation.

Lives returning to normal after disaster

This has been aided with the support of business houses, individuals and the Provincial and District Leaders.

Recently SP Brewery presented K10, 000 to assist families of the victims and locals in the area. The support was presented by SP Brewer Corporate Affairs Manager & Company Secretary, John Nilkare Jnr to Kundiawa-Gembog MP, William Gogl Onguglo.

Last week CBL Tema Mart also delivered food items to the affected community.

SP Awards nominations open

Today’s launch also marks 28 years since SP Brewery embarked on a journey with PNG Sports Foundation and PNG Olympic Committee to create this prestigious awards.

SP Brewery Marketing Manager, John Nilkare  said over the last 28 years the SP Sports Awards Committee has reviewed more than 100 thousand finalists and promoted 5 thousand nominations.

Notable nominees included, the Head Hunter,Stanley Nandex, Rugby League Super Star Marcus Bai, Super Fish Ryan Pini, Golden Girl Dika Toua, Power Lifter Linda Pulson and Track Queen Toia Wisel.

‘Export Art Series’ cans launched

SP Brewery has proudly launched its ‘Export Art Series’ cans, under its South Pacific Export Lager Brand, following a successful nationwide design competition in 2018.

From the 500 entries received during the competition, 22 winning designs from each province were selected and the winners received K1,000 each as prize money for their artwork.

Each winning design will be featured on the famous South Pacific Export Lager white can this year.

Public to vote favourite athlete

This category is open to the public to vote using their mobile phones.

SP Brewery and the PNG Olympic Committee have expressed the desire to see the public and various stakeholders participate more in the nomination period.

Nominations for the 2019 SP Sports Awards is now open following the launch on February 5th.

SP Brewery unhappy with alcohol ban decision

SP Brewery managing director, Stan Joyce, expressed the company’s disappointment over the decision.

“Our Company continues to invest in responsible consumption education and advocates effective licensing as mandated by the National Liquor Licensing Act. We also understand that Provincial Government has the powers to regulate the sale of alcohol. All we ask as a corporate citizen is for some communication with authorities which has been notably absent in this case,” stated Joyce.

SP Brewery announces 18-man squad

During today’s announcement, SP Brewery managing director, Stan Joyce, said they had always believed in the Hunters.

As the official sponsors of the SP PNG Hunters, it was only right for SP Brewery to make the team announcement.

Managing director Joyce said the ride was quite rough during the beginning of the season, but then again, nothing in life is perfect.

“But what is perfect is if you really do believe in yourself, and you do find good leadership and keep the game alive and keep the belief in yourself,” he said.

SP Brewery launches Export can comp

The competition aims to celebrate the unique and special art from each and every province in PNG by showcasing the art of 22 limited edition cans that will be launched in October and be a part of a campaign to celebrate the best of PNG.

SP Brewery marketing manager, Josh Wheeler, said Export Lager wants to build a platform that inspires positivity and empowers Papua New Guineans to be and do better through celebrating the best of PNG; in this instance the indigenous arts and designs.
