Cody Walker goes from hero to zero in rollercoaster finish to Rabbitohs v Dragons clash

With the Dragons in cruise control late in the second half, Walker was the catalyst for a thrilling finish when he burst into life with two incredible plays to narrow the gap to four points with five minutes left on the clock.

With his halves partner Adam Reynolds off the field for a concussion test, Walker took on the responsibility to get his side back into the game, scoring a magical solo try with eight minutes to play.

Why Cook will never give up on his No.9 dreams

Cook did his chances no harm with a strong 60-minute stint against Wigan on Saturday night, playing a hand in three of the Rabbitohs' four tries.

The 26-year-old is quietly confident the end of the chopping and changing with Robbie Farah is near after new coach Anthony Seibold declared he wants an 80-minute rake. Whether Cook is the man for the job will come down to the Rabbitohs' Charity Shield fixture in Mudgee.

South Sydney Rabbitohs predicted Round 1 line-up

Those names – think Cam Murray, Tyrell Fuimaono, Braidon Burns and Siosifa Talakai – will be better for the run and provide competition to established players.

The big question is at No.9 given new coach Anthony Seibold's preference for an 80-minute hooker while Cody Walker should flourish in the security of the No.6 jersey given Inglis's return at the back.

Left centre and wing are wide open with Fuimaono, Burns, Hymel Hunt, Robert Jennings, Jacob Gagan, Campbell Graham, Adam Doueihi and Richard Kennar just some of the candidates pushing for spots on that edge.

NRL star has finger amputated

Crichton has suffered problems with his left middle finger for a number of years and was recently told he would need further surgery, ruling him out for another three months.

But the 21-year-old instead opted to have the digit amputated, his manager David Rawlings confirmed to Fox Sports Australia.

Crichton had been left with no knuckle on the finger, which made it susceptible to being broken, something that had happened on multiple occasions over the last two years.

Maguire: We're closer than people think

The Rabbitohs could drop as low as 14th on the Telstra Premiership ladder at the end of Round 14 after going down 24-18 to the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium on Friday, fighting back from a 12-6 half-time deficit to level the scores early in the second term before Brisbane sealed the win late.

Burgess takes early guilty plea

Burgess will accrue 427 points meaning he will miss four matches and have 27 carry-over points.

Dogs finish strongly to down Rabbitohs

Both teams struggled for ideas in attack but the spark from Reynolds was the difference, repeatedly causing the Rabbitohs' flimsy left-edge defence all manner of problems.

Reynolds field-goal sinks Panthers

A late try to former Rabbitoh Michael Oldfield with four minutes left got the Panthers level after the Rabbitohs controlled most of the second half, before the cool head of Reynolds slotted the one-pointer from 20 metres out to notch up the Bunnies' third win of the season.

Cowboys too good for Rabbitohs

After 20 minutes of arm-wrestle football that saw both sides go close on multiple occasions, Johnathan Thurston was the man to break the deadlock with a penalty goal in the 20th minute.

Safety first with Burgess concussion

On that occasion, Burgess was taken off after 31 minutes, passed his HIA check and started the second half in a tight 24-18 win.

On Thursday, Burgess reeled out of a collision with Roosters back-rower Isaac Liu in which the Rabbitohs lock – while attempting to tackle Liu – collected the Rooster's shoulder on his jaw.
