Inmates launch first-ever album

The album, recorded under CHM and supported by NYDA and NCDC, is more than just rhythm and tunes….it is the prisoners’ way of speaking their minds and sharing their experiences about life behind bars.

People’s perception of a prison is often synonymous with crime, notoriety and loss of freedom.

But the inmates of Bomana have risen to the challenge to change this perception through their musical talents, mainly raising warning flags and to communicate positive messages.

Consultation on Draft Disability Authority Bill

Minister for Religion and Community Development Soroi Eoe presided over the launching, saying the finalised draft of the Bill must capture the wider aspects of service delivery framework for Persons with Disabilities for a more inclusive society. 

At the launching of the Consultation on Draft Disability Authority Bill 2018 in Port Moresby, Minister Eoe said the Authority Bill is a way forward for the Department of Community Development and Religion to pursue the global agenda of disability inclusiveness in development planning, budgeting and service delivery.

Dept set to drive public awareness

This is part of its strategic direction to address particularly gender-based violence, including sorcery.

And the department aims to drive this further into communities using all forms of media and communication tools.

Announcing this today during its first press conference for the year, the Minister for Youth, Religion and Community Development, Soroi Eoe, and the Secretary for the Department for Community Development and Religion, Anna Solomon, called on the media to strengthen their partnership for this purpose.

K50,000 grant for PNG Churches Council

This is the first time the council has been separately recognised under the PNG Church-State Partnership Program.

Chairman of PNG Churches Council, Bishop Denny Brag Guka, thanked the government and the ministry for the recognition.

He said with the church providing the spiritual strength and the government the resources, the country can be transformed.

It’s about partnership, honesty, commitment with passion, we can work.

He said the CC’s priority now is the establishment of the provincial council of churches, which the new Minister, Soroi Eoe, alluded to.

‘Street children’ issue needs more support: Minister

Minister for Youth, Religion and Community Development, Soroi Eoe, told this newsroom that support from stakeholders is needed to make it more effective.

Responding to queries raised on future plans of orphanages in Papua New Guinea, the Minister said there are plans in place which hopefully, may take effect sooner than expected.

However at the moment, the department is depending on existing platforms like church and social bodies that have already initiated most of these programs – one such group is the Life PNG Care.

Medical ship invited to Kikori

MP Soroi Eoe, who is also the Minister for Religion, Youth and Community Development, made this undertaking following a tour with the YWAM Medical Ships at the Port Moresby Harbour on Tuesday (Nov 14).

Eoe said Gulf Province was the first in the country to invite the YWAM Medical Ships, under leadership of former Governor Havila Kavo.

He said many delta communities were treated on the medical ship since its involvement.

“I acknowledge the tremendous work YWAM is doing in Papua New Guinea and also in my very own Kikori Open electorate,” said the MP.

PNG, Aust sign decentralisation agreement

These were the sentiments shared by the Minister for Department of Community Development and Religion, Soroi Eoe, during the signing on Thursday.

Minister Eoe said the agreement marks an important milestone in the history of PNG, particularly as far as the Ministry is concerned.

This will facilitate some of the major issues that the ministry wishes to address on behalf of our people to the government.

Eoe thanked the Australian government for partnering with PNG to make sure that services are delivered right down to the district level – where it matters the most.

Kikori MP queries previous funding

Minister for Youth, Religion and Community Development and Kikori MP, Soroi Eoe, posed this question during the swearing in of the District Development Authority’s new board members.

“I know each and every one of you. You know the issues in the district. Maybe you did not do what is right because of the past leadership,” said Eoe.

“But under my chairmanship, I will be straight that we need to see real tangible change.”

He said the Kikori District Development Authority board is now set to implement some of their urgent projects.

Minister to build on progress made

Eoe, a bachelor graduate in Anthropology at the University of Papua New Guinea was with the National Arts Museum for the last 19 years.

He later became the director until he decided to stand for Kikori Open in the general elections.

Minister Eoe after being handed the titled and welcomed, acknowledged and thanked the outgoing minister for her contributions during her time as minister.

“I particularly took note of some major milestone achievements under your political leadership.”

He noted;

Gore challenges new minister to continue work

 

Gore congratulated the new minister on his new appointment to a ministry that deals with the human capital of Papua New Guinea.

Gore said given her time in the industry, she had joined the ministry at a very challenging time when the department was at its lowest.

“I was able to unite the department for Community Development and Religion through the management of Secretary Anna Solomon to put differences aside and get straight to implementing so as to bring confidence back to the government, donor community and development partners.”
