76-year-old Sir Moi Avei, known for this wisdom, integrity and dedication to serving the nation, captivated the audience with his powerful works. He commended the hard work and perseverance of the graduates and emphasized the significance of their chosen paths

Mano pays tribute to Sir Moi

Mano made these remarks following Sir Moi Ave’s retirement announcement as Chairman of Ok Tedi Mining Limited.

Sir Moi Ave held the position for the past six years.

Mano said, “In the last 6 years, Sir Moi has presided over transformational change at the mine which has resulted in improved efficiency of its operations, extension of mine life, and increased benefits to all stakeholders.”

Werror appointed as OTML MD

Werror’s appointment was announced by Chairman of Ok Tedi Mining Limited Board, Sir Moi Avei, following the Ok Tedi Mining Limited 2019 Annual General Meeting held on 22 May 2020.

Werror’s career spans more than 30 years with Ok Tedi, having joined via the Company’s Graduate Development Scheme.

He progressively assumed more senior roles leading to his current position as Deputy CEO and General Manager External Relations.

Ok Tedi Declares K754m profit

Sir Moi noted: “The Company distributed PGK 400 million in dividends during 2019 while investing a further PGK 408 million in the strategically important Crusher Replacement Project. This project will be completed later this year enabling access to higher grade ore and delivering an increase in production and cash generation in 2022 and beyond.”

“The results reflect the benefit of improved production and continued cost discipline and were particularly pleasing given that dry weather had prevented shipping on the Fly River for more than 50 days at the end of 2019” said Sir Moi.

New dawn for BCL: Chairman

BCL chairman Robert Burns made the statement during their first board meeting in more than 27 years. The event was held on August 3 at Buka.

The board, led by Burns, included Sir Rabbie Namaliu, Dame Carol Kidu, Sir Moi Avei and members of BCL’s senior management team.

Burns said many everyday PNG citizens, including Bougainvilleans, are among BCL shareholders in addition to the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) and Independent State of Papua New Guinea (major shareholders).
