Reminder for eligible voters in Morobe

Morobe Province Election Manager, Simon Soheke, early last month had hoped to receive the working roll from the PNG Electoral Commission headquarters to send to wards to update names of eligible voters, but that has not happened.

He said they are using the 2017 National General Election roll to update the roll for the LLG elections.

The delay will affect their plans but Soheke says work must go on.

Morobe gears up for LLG elections

Morobe is one province gearing up for the LLG elections.

Despite not receiving the Working Roll, residents are still urged to visit the electoral office in Lae and check their names.

Election manager Simon Soheke says they expect to receive the Working Roll in the coming weeks and have it distributed to each of the 568 wards in the Province for voters to check their names.

The “Working Roll” is the Electoral Roll used in the 2017 National General Elections.

It will be used to check and confirm names before the final roll is released for the LLG elections.

PNC party heavyweights lose seats

Morobe Election Manager Simon Soheke confirmed to Loop PNG a few minutes ago that PNC Party candidates, Mao Zeming (Tewae-Siassi MP) and Theo Zurenuoc (Finschhafen MP) have respectively lost to Dr Kobie Bomareo and Rainbo Paita.

PANGU have now claimed four Open seats in the province, where party leader Sam Basil is also a local MP.

The defeat will send shockwaves through the PNC camp because Zeming is the deputy party leader and Fisheries Minister in the completed term of Parliament.

And Zurenuoc served his five years as the National Parliament Speaker.
