Solomons Islanders being sexually exploited by loggers

WorldFish published the report, titled 'From happy hour to hungry hour', which looked at the impacts of logging on food security, fisheries and well-being in Malaita.

It found in almost all cases, loggers provided monetary or food support for locals until their contract was up.

WorldFish Solomon Islands spokesperson, Delvene Boso, said the report also showed girls as young as 12 were being exploited.

Man stands trial for human trafficking

Senior Committal Court magistrate Cosmas Bidar today committed Willie Gare, 42 years of Gumine district, Chimbu Province to stand trial on allegations he was involved in recruiting and transporting young 11 Motuans to Kundiawa town in Chimbu.

He returned to the Waigani District Court today after he failed to turn up in court last week Thursday which saw a warrant issued by the District court for his arrest.

Man in rare sexual exploitation case wanted by court

Magistrate Cosmas Bidar issued the warrant for Willie Gare on Thursday after he failed to return to court on the date he suggested.

This comes after the court on August 31 ruled it had overwhelming evidence to commit Gare to stand trial at the National Court.

He was supposed to return to court on Thursday and make a response to the court's findings, which is his section 96 statement. However, he failed to do so.
