'Stealthing' - what you need to know

It may not be a word you've heard before but there's a lot of discussion about it right now on social media.

It's being talked about because of a US report which found cases are on the rise.

Victims' charities say it must be treated as rape - and that it's a hugely under-reported problem.

The study by Alexandra Brodsky in Columbia Journal of Gender and Law says it is a growing issue.

Abigail Breslin reveals past sexually assault

In an Instagram post titled "consent II", the American actress writes "I knew my assailant".

The 20-year-old, known for her role in the film Little Miss Sunshine, says in the post: "You are not obligated to have sex with someone that you're in a relationship with.

"Dating is not consent; marriage is not consent."

It's not known who Abigail Breslin is talking about in her post or when the assault happened.

April is sexual assault awareness month in the US.

The actress has received lots of support from fans and other American actors.

Man guilty of sexually assaulting minor

The incident took place between Sept 1 and Sept 18, 2013 when the girl was 15 years of age.

 The State alleges the accused picked the girl up during that period from her primary school under the pretext of giving her money and took her to Red hills at Gerehu when he sexually penetrated her.

He abused a relationship of trust that the girl had for him as he was seen as “uncle JP” to her and their families were close, being from the same clan and village.

Father on trial for sexually assaulting daughter

Magistrate John Kaumi of the Waigani Committal Court sent the case of the man to the National Court on Tuesday after the lower court found there was sufficient evidence against him.

The Port Moresby-based soldier, whose identity is being withheld due to the age of the victim, is expected to appear in the National Court on March 20 for listing.

He was arrested in July 2015 and charged with the persistent child sexual abuse under section 229 of the Criminal Code and Sexual Offenses and Crimes Against Children’s Act.

Refugee arrested over sexual assault of 10 year old

Acting Provincial Police Commander senior inspector David Yapu told Loop PNG that the accused, 28 year-old Muhammad Hussain of Pakistan was formally arrested on Monday.

He was charged with four counts of sexual penetration, under section 229(a) of the Criminal Code Act and Sexual offense and Crimes against Children’s Act.

PPC Yapu said the defendant invited the victim and two others to the lodge where she was violated.

Hussain is expected to appear in court this Wednesday for mention.

Student on sex charge appears in court

He appeared in court on Monday before Magistrate Mekeo Gauli, who read and explained his charge and the allegations against him in court.

The defendant, whose identity is withheld due to the age of the victim, was arrested and charged on allegations that he sexually violated a girl under the age of 16 years at June Valley on Feb 6.

The victim is 14 years old.

He was charged with sexual penetration, under section 229(a) of the Criminal Code act and Sexual offense and Crimes against Children’s act.

Athlete hailed for saving girls from molestation

She told the BBC she was in Rajasthan's Churu district on 1 January when she spotted three men trying to molest two teenage girls at a railway crossing.

"I chased and caught of one of them, and then helped the girls file a complaint," she said.

She added the incident showed that women were not safe even in busy areas.

"I was shocked and horrified when I saw these men trying to molest the girls in front of so many people at a busy railway crossing. Nobody did anything until I got out of the car and chased them myself," she said.

Cook on trial for sexual assault of boy

The man from Enga was committed by the Waigani District Court for trial this week after enough evidence was found in court against him.

He is expected to appear at the Waigani National Court on Nov 8 for listing where a date will be set for his trial once the appropriate court documents are fixed.

The alleged incident took place on May 9 this year at the barracks where the man worked as a cook in its mess and the boy lives with his parents.

Man who raped wife in same room as sleeping child jailed

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found guilty by an ACT Supreme Court jury of rape, assault and an act of indecency after an incident in January 2015.

The man attacked his wife and raped her while their three-year-old son slept in the same room.

An initial confrontation between the pair was also witnessed by their nine-year-old son.

During the confrontation the man threatened that the woman's family would be hurt if she told anyone or went to the police.

Mowana in court for sexual assault

Mowana was arrested on May 9 over allegations of sexual assault in the work place that took place some three years ago.

His brief appearances in court saw magistrate Cosmas Bidar arraign him before his case was adjourned to June 14.

From Kaibola village, Losuia, Milne Bay Province, the 53-year-old was charged with two counts of sexual assault under section 349 of the criminal code act.
